June Junior Makers: Pneumatic Moving Monsters Materials

For June, Junior Makers is creating fun moving monsters using the power of AIR! This fun and easy project involves the science of pneumatics (pronounced new-MATT-ix), an aspect of physics and engineering that is concerned with using the energy in compressed gas or air to make something move or work. We will be using mostly household and easy to find materials to make the mouth of a monster move up and down!

Here is a list of materials you will need to make a pneumatic moving monster

• Colorful card stock or copy paper
• 10 mm plastic syringes- need 2
• small plastic PVC tubing that fits on end of syringes
• tape
• scissors
• glue stick
• hot glue gun or double sided sticky tab
• extra card stock and other craft items to decorate

You probably have most of these items around the house. Some of items you may not have are the syringes or the PVC tubing. If you ever had to give a baby or toddler some medicine, you may have some of the syringes that are given to grown ups to administer liquid medicine.
