First Time at Do Space?

At Do Space we’ve welcomed just over 15,000 visitors in both June and July. And new members are signing up for free everyday! So far, we’re a community of over 33,000 unique members.

But what if you aren’t one of those many visitors? What if you still haven’t made it to 72nd and Dodge to check us out? Here’s what you can expect:

Start out at the Information Desk, immediately to your left in the main entrance. If you’ve self-registered at www.dospace.org you can pick up your card here. If you don’t have a free membership yet, we can help you with that, too.

Now what? That depends on your purpose.

If you came to Do Space to use a computer – maybe check your email or try out one of our software programs – all you have to do is look for an open computer station and sign-in with your Do Space number and password.

Are you registered for a class? Find the appropriate classroom and check-in with the staff member or volunteer. Remember, classes are free, but you need to register in advance! Registration opens two weeks before each class, so keep your eyes on our Events calendar if you want to snag a seat in one of our programs.

Looking for something fun to do with the kids? We have a lot of options. First, there are rooms just for you: the Teen Hangout for older kids and the Littles Lab for accompanied kids under 12. The Teen Hangout has a video game wall that can display up to four games at once with multiple players. The Littles Lab has an 80-inch touchscreen computer loaded with apps and games. You’ll also find building toys, blocks, and books. Both rooms also have white shelves packed with Tech Kits. Look through the Tech Kit tubs to read instructions for some of the projects – when you find something that looks interesting, take the tub to the Tech Desk for a check-out. You’ll need to sign a Borrower’s Agreement and then the tech will be yours to explore for the next 30 minutes. Yes, these Tech Kits include robots, but there are other fun options, too.

Interested in 3D printing or laser cutting? Feel free to go into the 3D lab and ask questions or browse the manuals available there. If you are a beginner, the best way to get started is to sign up for a class or a one-on-one mentor.
