The Omaha Community Foundation, best known for its yearly Omaha Gives! event, just launched a new initiative to monitor the community health of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area called The Landscape. As an area nonprofit, Do Space was invited to attend an information session and I was lucky enough to attend.
The Landscape aims to give a data-driven look at key community indicators, such as education, health, safety, and transportation. The website presents insights from publicly available data to serve as a community conversation starter to bring nonprofits, policymakers, residents, and others together to look at ways to improve the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.
The Landscape is more than just numbers though. They feature stories of local people to give an insight into the reality behind the numbers. They also provide links to ways to get involved in the community and ways for you to express your voice, giving feedback to their project and submitting your own story. Although it just launched, The Landscape has the potential to become another great tool for improving our community.
