Need last minute Christmas gifts and the Laser Cutter is booked?

Were you hoping to grab some time on our laser cutter to finish a last minute gift only to find that it’s reserved? All weekend long?
Our laser cutter is easily our most popular piece of equipment in the 3D Lab, especially this time of year, but never fear! There are other options in the 3D Lab! With some Illustrator know how, I’ve come up with two quick approaches to other equipment in the 3D Lab.
Have you considered cookies for Christmas?
No, you can’t bake cookies here at Do Space, but you can create custom 3D printed cookie cutters. And if you’re like me and find 3D modeling a little intimidating, I have good news for you! You don’t really need to know a lot about 3D modeling. You can create shapes in Illustrator and merge them together in Tinkercad. To learn how, head over to Thingiverse and grab the instruction sheet. And, If you just want to create the reindeer cookie cutter we tested instead of your own design, you can do that too! On Thingiverse we’ve included SVG files for the reindeer cookie cutter pictured below. Follow the instructions to import them to Tinkercad and make your own reindeer cookies.
Then there’s always the tried and true gift card…
Gift cards aren’t always the most personal gift, but if a certain teenager in your life (or anyone else) requested just gift cards for Christmas, you can always give them a personal touch by creating a unique holder, like the adorable yeti pictured below. Fun illustrations created in Illustrator can be turned into cut-paper sculptures using our Cricut Maker. Head over to Thingiverse for instructions on how to go from an Illustrator file to the Cricut Maker.
Like the yeti and just want to make that instead? We’ve got you covered there too. Just download the SVG files from Thingiverse and follow the instructions to make your own yeti card holders.
