Have you ever attended an online presentation or meeting where one of the speakers has a blurred background? Is that something you’d like to do? Well here’s the settings you need to know about to accomplish this in several of the more popular platforms:

Zoom

  • Before the call: Settings | Select Backgrounds and Filters | Choose blur option located under the Virtual Backgrounds menu
  • During the call: Click the up arrow next to Stop Video button | Virtual Background | Blur

Microsoft Teams

  • Before the call: Background filters | Blur
  • During the call: Meeting control panel | More actions | Apply Background Effects | Blur

Google Meet

  • Before the call: Select a meeting | Change Background | blur your background fully or slightly | Join
  • During the call: More | Change Background | Choose blur your background or slightly blur your background

Please keep in mind that your results may vary based on several factors including the complexity of your background, the power under the hood of your computer, and, like it or not, your hair.
