The fine folks over at Android Central (though this applies you iPhone folks too) have a great article titled “‘Bit Rot’ explained: Why your phone is slower than when it was new” explaining why your phone just isn’t as fast as it used to be even though you’ve not “broken” it somehow.

The factors involved include:

  • Software Erosion
  • Software Entropy
  • Software Bloat

In short, blame the apps, not the phone.

You can read the full explanation over at Android Central.
