Hey, guys! It’s no secret that you can find and do almost anything online.

Since the creation of the world wide web we have been presented with a plethora of opportunities; we can talk to family and friends via our web cams, phones or tablet, we can go to school in our pajamas and we can even order food from McDonald’s and have it delivered to us!

It’s exciting, but if you’re not careful, it can be pretty scary. Things like hacking, cyberbullying and internet scams are part of the internet as well, along with other dangers.

It’s important to stay safe online and here are some tips:

  • Trust your gut instincts; if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Check out this site for this and other helpful tips.

  • Adjust the privacy settings in your social media accounts. This site will show you how.

  • For parents: always monitor what your kids do online. That and more tips can be found here.

How to protect yourself

  • Always erase your browser’s history and log out of all transaction based services when you are finished, especially if you’re on a public computer or sharing a device with family; more info can be found here.

  • Use two step authentication; most sites offer that and this link will explain more.

  • Use password management services like Dashlane, Lastpass, etc. If you don’t know which to choose, click here.

  • Use an anti-virus service; click here for a list of companies.

Remember

The internet can seem big and scary, but with the right tools, the internet can be a wonderful experience and it’s up to all of us to protect ourselves and each other!
