In the spirit of the “Humans of New York” photo series and social media phenomenon, Do Space is inspired to work with staff and volunteers to create a “Humans of Do Space” series that shares the stories of our members, volunteers, users and staff. The goal of this effort it to capture the people that are using the space and how it affects their lives. What does it allow them to do? What does it allow them to make? How are people using the space to overcome obstacles and get things done?

Today we are featuring Danny Ventura, UNO student, Lead Lab Consultant at UNO and former Do Space Marketing Intern, along with fellow intern Aaron Perdew, UNO student and former Do Space Education Intern. Over the course of this past semester these two UNO students helped Do Space improve our marketing strategy and supported research on education programs. We are going to miss having these guys around Do Space- but we are certain that we created some new fans and that they are both destined for great things after school.  We are pleased to introduce you to Danny and Aaron.

What are you passionate about?
I have a few things. First is my family. I’m consistently pushing myself in everything I do to try and make them proud. It’s something I have within myself that I never want to disappoint them. Making sure my mother and sister are happy. Second is helping others, whether I’m mentoring STEM topics in middle schools or just being positive light for anyone. Lastly, I love my Lakers. Even though we’re going to be going through a rough tunnel without Kobe for a few years but it’s all good. In middle school I use to wear headbands, I rocked Carmelo Anthony’s shoes with NBA jerseys in practices, and acted like I was Kobe Bryant himself even after I’d air ball all my shots. Nothing but love.

What does Do Space mean to you?
Do Space means a lot. I love to learn. I love to be put in a place where I’m given the chance to better my skills and develop new abilities that will help everyday. Do Space has done this for me and will continue doing this for me.

What have you been able to accomplish at Do Space?
As the Marketing intern, I’m grateful to have partnered with colleagues for promotional purposes to push our message of providing free technology access to everyone in Nebraska. All my projects from making promotional materials to interacting with Do Space members and listening to their stories are some of my accomplishments at Do Space. I enjoyed every learning curve that has come my way when working towards an accomplishment at Do Space.

How does Do Space empower you to grow individually or grow your company?
I’m my biggest critic and I’m constantly competing with myself, Do Space has allowed me to continue to strive for my pursuit of learning and evolving. I’m proud and sign off on all our promotional materials during my internship. Do Space has empowered my never ending love in learning new tricks, so I can better myself, which in turn will help others. Will always be grateful that I was granted the pleasure of being our very first marketing intern in Do Space history.

What tools and resources are you using at Do Space?
During my time it’s been our computers, laptops, camera.
