Make Games at our Girls Make Games Workshop
June 5th, 2018 | Ruth Williams, Community Learning Specialist
Do Space is hosting a Girls Make Games workshop for girls ages 8 to 15 on June 11 from 1-3pm! Girls Make Games is a series of international summer camps, workshops and game jams designed to inspire the next generation of designers, creators, and engineers.
During our 2-hour GMG Workshop, participants learn about the process of video game development, which includes game design and programming. GMG’s workshops are designed to be accessible to girls of all coding levels. We work with a popular visual programming game development tool called Stencyl, available for free here.
This workshop is aimed at beginners, with emphasis on instilling a love and excitement for game-making as well as creative expression. Participants will create a 2D platformer game. The creation process will cover game-design concepts such as: player character, enemies, goals, levels, obstacles, and so forth. In addition, participants will learn to program and manipulate code blocks.
Interested participants who identify as female are welcome to register to our Girls Make Games Workshop. This includes students who were not assigned female at birth and those who identify as femme, gender fluid, or gender non-conforming
