Do Space has a great new maker project for kiddos in the month of April for Junior Makers! On Wednesday, April 4th at 5pm, we will be making cardboard articulated grabbers.

This project is made of everyday items, most of which you probably have around the house. These are not only great for grabbing those long lost toys that fell under the couch, but they a great way to experience with to see how you can customize it in a way to pick up even the smallest or heaviest items around the house.

Here is a list of materials you will need to make these super fun grabbers:

  • clean, unbent corrugated cardboard
  • a ruler
  • scissors
  • a sharpened pencil
  • masking or painters tape
  • 1.5 in. brass paper fasteners (you can make 1 in. fasteners work too)
  • a large rubber band
  • a piece of string, about 8-10 in. long
  • paint stirring sticks
  • foam, extra cardboard, paperclips, craft sticks, any other assorted craft items to customized the “grabbing” part
  • items to pick up

Some of the things you may not readily have on had are the brass paper fasteners and the paint stirring sticks. Try using paper clips,  bobby pins, or screw and nuts for the fasteners. As for the stirring sticks, they are going to be used a the hand and any kind of long flat hard material for the stirring sticks, like a wooden cooking spoon or the ruler can be used for it. Put on your creativity hat to try and find a fun solution for items you may not have!

We will be making these articulated grabbers on Wednesday, April 4th at 5pm. Join the webinar by visiting our Do Space Calendar.
