Do Space® provides a wide selection of software. Below is a list of what we currently provide on our public access computers. Not all software is available on all machines. Please ask at the Tech Help Desk if you need additional details.

 

ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for image editing and compositing.

 

Adobe Illustrator is used for vector graphics and illustration.

 

Adobe InDesign is used for page design and layout.

 

Adobe Premiere Pro is used for video production and editing.

 

Adobe After Effects is used for cinematic visual effects and graphics.

 

Adobe Dreamweaver is used for web and mobile design.

 

Adobe Audition is used for audio recording, mixing, and restoration.

 

Adobe Flash Builder is an integrated development environment for Flash applications for desktop, web, and mobile.

 

MICROSOFT OFFICE

Microsoft Office Word is word processing software that can be used for various projects, writing, reports, and forms.

 

Microsoft Office PowerPoint is presentation software.

 

Microsoft Office Excel is a spreadsheet program that organizes numeric and text data.

 

Microsoft Office Publisher is a page layout application that is commonly used for making posters, flyers, and multi-page publications.

 

Microsoft Office OneNote is note taking software built to be used across multiple platforms so you have all of your notes all the time.

 

OPENOFFICE

OpenOffice Writer is word processing software like Microsoft Word or Apple’s Pages.

 

OpenOffice Calc is spreadsheet software with the same functionality as Microsoft Excel.

 

OpenOffice Impress is a presentation program like Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple’s Keynote.

 

OpenOffice Draw is a vector graphics editor comparable in features to the drawing functions in Microsoft Office.

 

OpenOffice Base is a database management program similar to Microsoft Access

 

EVERYTHING ELSE

Atom is an open-source and highly-customizable text editor that can be used for coding, document editing, and more. It features an easy to use interface and many built-in tools to improve productivity.

Audacity is a program that can be used for most kinds of audio recording, editing, and mixing. This program is very powerful and is continuously improved by contributors.

 

AutoCAD is one of the oldest CAD (Computer Aided Design) softwares and is used by professionals for 2D & 3D design and drafting. It

 

Blender is a multi-platform, free, open-source 3D creation suite. It can do modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, video editing, and game creation. It is actively developed and supports python scripting.

CodeBlocks is an open source, cross platform, free C, C++ and Fortran integrated development environment. It has all the tools you need to build, edit, debug, and run your code.

 

DraftSight (free version) offers access existing DWG files and create new ones. It is designed to have a familiar user interface and a minimal learning curve to facilitate an easy transition from other CAD applications.

 

Dragon Naturally Speaking is dictation software for accessibility and productivity. It recognises your voice and translates your speech into commands and text.

 

FreeOCR - “is Optical Character Recognition Software for Windows and supports scanning from most Twain scanners and can also open most scanned PDF's and multi page Tiff images as well as popular image file formats.”

GIMP - aka the GNU Image Manipulation Program is a multi-purpose graphics creation and image editing tool. It is free and open-source; a popular alternative to Adobe Photoshop across multiple platforms.

Inkscape similar to GIMP inkscape is an open source, multi-platform, free alternative to Adobe Illustrator. It is primarily used for graphic design.

 

Jaws is a screen reader designed for accessibility applications, and is set up to work with popular browsers, word processing, and more.

 

Lego Designer is free software the can be used to design things using virtual legos. Designs can be shared or even ordered from Lego.

 

Minecraft is a sandbox game about building anything you can imagine out of blocks. It offers a variety of different play styles for all ages. Just beware of the (not-so-scary) monsters that come out at night.

Movie Maker is simple and easy to use for simple slideshows and home movies. It is easy to share your creations online.

 

NetBeans is a complete free Java IDE. It supports many different plug-ins and can be used with C++, Python, and more.

 

Netfabb provides mesh edit, repair, and analysis capabilities specific to 3D printing.

 

Notepad++ is a text editor replacement for the standard windows notepad. It features line numbering, auto-correct, and a fully customizable user interface.

 

Paint.NET is a free and fully-featured image editing platform that has a strong user community.

 

Python 2.x & 3.x - is a simple and easy to learn (yet powerful) open source programming language. The developer's goal is to make an intuitive and easy to use language that is perfect for beginners and advanced users.

R is a free language developed specifically for statistical and graphics computing. It can be used to do text analysis, create maps, and other data applications.

 

Roblox/RStudio is a free, open-source, streamlined IDE for the R language. It focuses on providing popular packages and developing R for the web.

 

Scribus is a free and open-source page layout application. It is a popular alternative to Microsoft Publisher.

 

Second Life is a massive user-created 3D virtual word that is used by millions of users worldwide.

 

Sigil is open source publishing software for e-books.

 

SketchUp is friendly and forgiving 3D modeling software. It can be used to drafting, design, and 3D printing.

 

Skype is a free voice and video call service.

 

Slack is a messaging and file share service for teams.

 

SolidWorks is 3D design software popular for it’s ease of use.

 

Visual Studio Community 2015 “is a free, fully-featured, and extensible IDE for creating modern applications for Windows, Android, and iOS, as well as web applications and cloud services.”

 

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols (it plays everything).


ZoomText “is a fully integrated magnification and screen reading program that enlarges, enhances and reads aloud everything on the computer screen.”

 

MAC SPECIFIC

GarageBand is a music creation studio with built in effects and digital instruments. It can be used for multi-track recording of any kind of audio. Music, voiceover, podcasts, and more.

 

iBook author is e-publishing software developed by Apple.

 

iMovie is simple and easy to use for simple slideshows and home movies. It makes it easy to share your creations online.

 

Jupyter “is a web application that allows you to create and share documents that contain live code, equations, visualizations and explanatory text. Uses include: data cleaning and transformation, numerical simulation, statistical modeling, machine learning and much more.“
